Notes on this 7 Marla layout
Built for a second floor from day one
The feature that sets this plan apart is the staircase: 8 × 7 ft, placed in the middle of the house beside the store, and drawn before there is any floor for it to reach. Families on 7 marla often build the ground floor first and the upper floor years later. A staircase planned now costs little. Finding room for one later usually costs a bedroom.
A living room with no window
The hall (15 × 13 ft) is the main living space, and it sits directly behind the porch and the sitout. The porch roof shades the front, and the side wall has no window in this drawing, so the room people use most gets no direct daylight. Adding a window on the side wall is the obvious fix, if that wall is not shared with the neighbour. So is a clerestory above the porch roof.
Bathrooms that belong to the smaller bedrooms
Four bedrooms line a 4 ft passage that runs 31 ft from the hall to the back of the plot. Each of the plan's two bathrooms is attached to one of the two 8 ft-wide bedrooms, so the master (13 × 13½ ft) and Bedroom 4, the two largest rooms, have none of their own. Bedroom 3 is also an interior room with no window. Swapping which bedrooms get the bathrooms costs nothing in area and fixes the master.
The basement entrance
The drawing reserves a 6 × 10 ft stair down to a basement at the front corner. A basement adds real cost: excavation, retaining walls and waterproofing. Keep it only if you intend to build one. Otherwise that corner becomes a larger sitout or a wider porch.
