Notes on this 5 Marla layout
A public front and a private back
The layout splits cleanly in two. Across the front, behind a covered porch that runs the full 25 ft, the living room (17 × 14 ft) and the kitchen (8 × 14 ft) sit side by side. A 4 ft hallway then crosses the whole width of the house, and every bedroom opens off it. A guest can be seated in the living room without passing a single bedroom door, which is the thing families most often ask for on 5 marla.
Narrow bedrooms, bathrooms behind them
The price of fitting three bedrooms into the back 20 ft is width. All three are about 8½ ft wide: enough for a double bed with roughly 2 ft to walk past it, but not for a bed with a side table on each side. Bedroom 3 is the longest at 17 ft, so it is the natural master, though it is Bedroom 1 that has a bathroom of its own. The two bathrooms sit at the back of the plot, behind the bedrooms rather than between them and the hallway: Bathroom 1 is attached to Bedroom 1, and Bathroom 2 is shared by Bedrooms 2 and 3, with a door from each. Swapping which bedroom is the master costs nothing but a label.
The porch is an entrance, not parking
At 5 ft deep, the covered porch is somewhere to take shoes off and keep out of the rain, not somewhere to park. A car parked parallel to the road needs about 8 ft of depth, and that has to come out of the living room and kitchen. If a car is essential, decide it now: it is the single largest change you can make to this plan.
Before you build it
The drawing puts windows on both side walls. On a 25 ft plot in a row of houses, those walls are usually shared with the neighbours, so check which sides of your own plot really are open. Most 5-marla families eventually build a second floor.
